Jiedu Sanjie formula (also known as Yanggan Jiedu Sanjie or YGJDSJ) is a modern Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed for the treatment of cancers, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal polyps. The formulation consists of multiple herbs with documented anticancer properties, including Ligustrum lucidum Ait. (Nü-Zhen-Zi), Scutellaria barbata D. Don (Ban-Zhi-Lian), Solanum nigrum L., Duchesnea indica Focke (She-Mei), Euphorbia helioscopia L. (Ze-Qi), Rehmannia ternata Thunb. (Mao-Zhao-Cao), Curcuma wenyujin Y.H. Chen et C. Ling (Yü-Jin), and Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc (Hu-Zhang). These components act through various mechanisms such as inhibiting cell proliferation, inducing apoptosis, arresting the cell cycle in cancer cells, and suppressing metastasis. Mechanistically, the formula has been shown to inhibit epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by blocking TGF-β1/Smad3/Snail signaling pathways in liver cancer cells[2]. It also reduces metastatic potential by decreasing cell adhesion, migration, and invasion induced by TGF-β1[2]. Clinical studies have explored its use both alone and in combination with endoscopic procedures for preventing recurrence of colorectal polyps[3].
