Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiedu Tongluo Tiaogan Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) multi-herbal formula used primarily for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications. The decoction consists of five main herbal ingredients in specific proportions by weight: - Coptis chinensis Franch (Huanglian) - Radix Rhei Et Rhizome (Dahuang) - Astragalus propinquus Schischkin (Huangqi) - Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen) - Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) The mechanism of action is pleiotropic and multi-targeted. It has been shown to lower blood glucose levels, improve insulin secretion, reduce insulin resistance, enhance autophagic flux, protect pancreatic β-cells, restore cellular homeostasis, and modulate glucose and lipid metabolism. Molecular studies suggest that it acts through pathways related to lipopolysaccharide/cytokine receptor binding and may inhibit endoplasmic reticulum stress as well as excessive autophagy[2][3][7]. Clinical studies indicate efficacy in improving glycemic control in obese patients with T2DM[3][7].
