Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiejing Zhentong Tincture (解痉镇痛酊) is a topical over-the-counter (OTC) herbal-chemical combination tincture developed and marketed by Shanghai Xiao Fang Pharmaceutical (formerly Shanghai Yun Jia Huang Pu Pharmaceutical). It is formulated with capsicum extract, Citrus reticulata peel extract, methyl salicylate, and menthol. The tincture is indicated for the relief of neck, shoulder, back, and leg pain resulting from soft-tissue injuries, as well as for the treatment of chilblains (frostbite). Its mechanism of action involves the synergistic effects of its active components: capsaicin (from capsicum extract) acts as a TRPV1 agonist to desensitize nociceptive fibers; methyl salicylate acts as a topical NSAID by inhibiting cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) to reduce prostaglandin synthesis and inflammation; and menthol acts as a TRPM8 agonist to provide a cooling sensation and local analgesic effect.
