Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jieyu Chufan Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) developed by Shijiazhuang Yiling Pharmaceutical for the treatment of depression and anxiety. It was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in December 2021. The formulation is based on traditional principles of 'regulating Qi, relieving depression, clearing heat, and eliminating irritability.' It is composed of several botanical extracts, including *Gardenia jasminoides*, *Magnolia officinalis*, and *Forsythia suspensa*. Pharmacologically, the drug is thought to exert antidepressant effects by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and increasing the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system. Clinical trials have investigated its use both as a monotherapy for mild-to-moderate depression and as an adjunctive therapy with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for moderate-to-severe depression to enhance efficacy and reduce side effects.
