Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jieyu Chufan Jiaonang is an approved oral traditional Chinese medicine capsule developed and manufactured by Yiling for the treatment of **mild to moderate depression** in patients meeting a specific traditional Chinese medicine syndrome pattern associated with qi stagnation, phlegm obstruction, and internal depressive heat. It is a multi-herb fixed formulation derived from modifications of the classical formulas Banxia Houpu Tang and Zhizi Houpu Tang, and contains *Gardenia jasminoides* fruit, processed *Magnolia officinalis* bark, processed *Pinellia ternata*, *Forsythia suspensa*, *Poria cocos*, *Perilla* stem, *Citrus aurantium*, and licorice. Its claimed therapeutic action in TCM terms is to resolve depression, transform phlegm, clear heat, and relieve vexation; modern pharmacology described publicly is limited, but nonclinical studies cited by the manufacturer report antidepressant-like behavioral effects in animal models, and phase 2 and 3 Chinese trials used fluoxetine as an active comparator in mild to moderate depression. The product was approved in China in 2021 as an innovative TCM drug.
