Overview
Jieyu pill (also known as Jieyu Wan) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) patent drug primarily indicated for the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders, particularly those characterized by the TCM syndrome of "liver qi stagnation." The formula is a multi-herb combination typically containing botanical ingredients such as *Bupleurum chinense* (Chaihu), *Curcuma aromatica* (Yujin), *Paeonia lactiflora* (Baishao), *Angelica sinensis* (Danggui), and *Albizia julibrissin* (Hehuanhua). Pharmacologically, Jieyu pill is believed to exert antidepressant and anxiolytic effects by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, increasing the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus, and regulating monoamine neurotransmitters including serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine. It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials in China for its efficacy and safety in treating epidemic-related stress, anxiety, and depression compared to psychological support therapy.
