Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jieyu Sufei Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, specifically designed for the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) and bronchial asthma. The formula is rooted in the TCM theory of 'regulating the Liver to treat the Lung,' which addresses the underlying pathogenesis of Liver Qi stagnation and Lung Qi dysfunction often seen in patients with stress-induced or emotional asthma. Clinical and pharmacological studies indicate that the decoction effectively reduces airway hyperresponsiveness and suppresses airway inflammation. Its mechanism of action involves modulating the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance, specifically by decreasing the levels of Th2-associated cytokines such as interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-5 (IL-5), while increasing the levels of the Th1-associated cytokine interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). This leads to a reduction in serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and eosinophil infiltration in the airways.
