jiezi

Jiezi, also known as Semen Sinapis or Mustard Seed, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herb derived from the dried ripe seeds of *Sinapis alba* L. (White Mustard) or *Brassica juncea* (L.) Czern. et Coss. (Brown Mustard). In TCM, it is traditionally used to warm the lungs, regulate qi, and transform phlegm-cold. In modern clinical research, it is being evaluated as a constituent of a multi-herb TCM formula for the treatment of progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) characterized by a phlegm heat-blood stasis pattern. The herb contains active glucosinolates such as sinalbin and sinigrin, which are thought to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitussive properties that may contribute to the management of chronic respiratory conditions and fibrotic lung diseases.
