Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jing Si Herbal Tea (JSHT) is a novel traditional Chinese medicine formula comprising eight herbs recognized in Chinese herbal pharmacopoeia. It was developed by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation to regulate immunity and treat respiratory inflammatory diseases, particularly COVID-19[1][2][6]. The formula works through a multicomponent, multitarget, and multi-pathway approach, demonstrating anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and antithrombotic properties[2][10]. Clinical studies have shown that JSHT, when used as complementary therapy alongside standard management, effectively reduces SARS-CoV-2 viral load, decreases systemic inflammation, and alleviates lung infiltrates in patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19[7][10]. It appears particularly effective in male and older patients (aged ≥60 years)[7]. Research suggests that JSHT may help prevent progression to critical status and reduce mortality in COVID-19 patients[7][10]. Recent studies have also demonstrated that JSHT modulates macrophage polarization and inflammatory signaling in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation, suggesting potential applications for treating sepsis and other inflammatory conditions[5][6].
