Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jinkuishenqiwan (also known as Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan or Golden Cabinet's Kidney Qi Pill) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the "Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber" by Zhang Zhongjing. It is designed to warm and tonify kidney yang. The formula is a combination of eight herbal ingredients: Rehmannia glutinosa, Dioscorea opposita, Cornus officinalis, Alisma orientale, Poria cocos, Paeonia suffruticosa, Cinnamomum cassia, and Aconitum carmichaelii. While traditionally used for conditions characterized by kidney yang deficiency—such as lower back pain, edema, and urinary difficulties—it is also being investigated for its efficacy in treating depression, particularly when the condition presents with liver qi stagnation and kidney qi deficiency. Its therapeutic effects are thought to be mediated through the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the modulation of neuroendocrine functions.
