Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jinqi Jiangtang is a traditional Chinese medicine formula approved as a Chinese patent medicine for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is composed of three herbal ingredients: Coptis chinensis (rhizome), Astragalus membranaceus (root), and Lonicera japonica (flower bud). The formula is based on the classic “Qianjin Huanglian pill” from ancient Chinese medical texts. Its active constituents include alkaloids, polysaccharides, saponins, flavonoids, iridoid glycosides and phenolic acids. Clinical studies have shown that it can lower blood glucose levels and improve insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes. Mechanistically, it acts by improving glucose and lipid metabolism and reducing inflammation; some evidence suggests modulation of gut microbiota may also contribute to its effects[1][2][3][5][7][8].
