Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jinshui Huanxian is a proprietary Chinese herbal compound prescription formulated to treat pulmonary fibrosis and related respiratory conditions. It is composed of 11 medicinal herbs including Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (ginseng), Ophiopogonis Radix (ophiopogon), Rehmanniae Radix (rehmannia), Trichosanthis Fructus (trichosanthes fruit), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (fritillaria bulb), Moutan Cortex (moutan bark), Epimedii Herba (epimedium/herba epimedii), Ginkgo Semen (ginkgo seed), Pulsatillae Radix (pulsatilla root), Coicis Semen (coix seed/Job’s tears) and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (tangerine peel)[1]. The formula has demonstrated efficacy in animal models for reducing lung tissue damage and collagen deposition caused by bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Mechanistically, it exerts anti-fibrotic effects by inhibiting oxidative stress—specifically downregulating NADPH oxidase 4 and upregulating Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 in lung tissues—and modulates multiple molecular pathways involved in inflammation and fibrogenesis[1][4]. Clinical use is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles targeting "lung-kidney qi deficiency" and "phlegm-blood stasis"[2][4]. Pharmacokinetic studies have identified several major bioactive components such as ginsenosides Rb1/Rc/Rb2, icariin, catalpol, apigenin-7-glucoside among others[3][5].
