Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jitongning (脊痛宁) is a traditional Chinese medicine developed by Tasly Pharmaceutical Group. It is being investigated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment of inflammatory rheumatic diseases, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). It is formulated as an oral capsule or tablet and is composed of multiple herbal ingredients. Clinical studies have shown that Jitongning improves the signs and symptoms of AS with efficacy comparable to sulfasalazine. Its mechanism of action is believed to be immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory, as it has been shown to reduce the proportion of T cells expressing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ).
