Jiu Yi Powder (also known as Jiu Yi San or Jiu Yi Dan) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) topical formulation primarily used for wound healing and the treatment of chronic ulcers, anal fistulas, and plasma cell mastitis. Developed and standardized by institutions such as Longhua Hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the powder is a compound preparation traditionally consisting of calcined gypsum (Shi Gao) and mercuric oxide (Hong Sheng Dan) in a 9:1 ratio. Its therapeutic mechanism centers on 'removing putrefaction and promoting tissue regeneration,' where it facilitates the drainage of pus, debridement of necrotic tissue, and stimulation of granulation tissue formation. Due to its mercury content, contemporary clinical research focuses on standardizing its preparation and evaluating its safety and systemic toxicity.
