Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JiuLiWan (JLW) is a classic proprietary Chinese medicine (PCM) formula traditionally used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). It is a multi-component herbal preparation containing active compounds such as ailanthone (AIL), honokiol, and glycyrrhetinic acid. The formula exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory mechanisms, specifically by modulating the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, and TNF signaling pathways. Research indicates that its components, particularly ailanthone, can suppress the RAF/ERK/STAT3 signaling pathway and increase p53 phosphorylation, leading to reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-2 and IFN-γ and decreased expression of T-cell activation markers CD69 and CD25. JLW is recognized as an effective, safe, and inexpensive strategy for UC treatment in clinical practice.
