Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiuwei Zhenxin is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, primarily available as granules, developed for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. It was the first TCM approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) specifically for the indication of anxiety. The formulation consists of nine herbal ingredients, including *Panax ginseng*, *Poria cocos*, *Polygala tenuifolia*, and *Ziziphus jujuba*. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the regulation of multiple neurotransmitter systems, including serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine (DA), as well as the modulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. It is often used as a monotherapy or in combination with Western antidepressants or anxiolytics to improve efficacy and reduce side effects.
