Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Jiyoutai (JY29-2)** is a biosimilar to Novo Nordisk's Ozempic (semaglutide), developed by Hangzhou Jiuyuan Gene Engineering as an injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA). It mimics the mechanism of semaglutide by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor, enhancing insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying to improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes. The drug's new drug application (NDA) was accepted by China's NMPA in April 2024 following a phase 3 trial, positioning it as the first locally developed semaglutide biosimilar in China ahead of Ozempic's patent expiry in 2026.[1][6][7][9]
