JKB-121

JKB-121 is a long-acting small molecule drug developed as a weak antagonist of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). TLR4 is involved in cellular inflammation pathways and plays a role in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) by mediating inflammatory and fibrotic responses in the liver. Preclinical studies indicated that JKB-121 could reduce inflammation, hepatic stellate cell activation, fibrosis, and levels of liver enzymes such as ALT and AST. In clinical trials, JKB-121 was evaluated for its safety and efficacy in reducing liver fat content and improving metabolic markers in patients with NASH. The drug was found to be well tolerated but did not demonstrate statistically significant improvement over placebo in Phase II trials[1][3][4][9].
