Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JKN23041 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor being developed by Beijing Shuobai Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). By inhibiting the PDE4 enzyme, the drug prevents the breakdown of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in inflammatory and structural cells of the airways. This increase in cAMP levels leads to a reduction in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators, as well as the inhibition of inflammatory cell activation. JKN23041 is formulated for inhalation to deliver the therapeutic agent directly to the lungs, potentially improving efficacy and reducing the systemic adverse effects, such as gastrointestinal distress, commonly associated with oral PDE4 inhibitors like roflumilast.
