JNJ-26489112 is an experimental small molecule anticonvulsant and antidepressant drug developed by Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Research & Development. It was designed as a successor to topiramate for the treatment of epilepsy, with the aim of reducing side effects by lacking activity against carbonic anhydrase. The compound was also investigated for major depressive disorder. Its mechanism of action remains unknown, but it demonstrated dose-dependent suppression of photoparoxysmal EEG responses in patients with photosensitive epilepsy during clinical trials. JNJ-26489112 was generally well-tolerated in studies, with mild headache, dizziness, and nausea being the most common adverse events reported. Development for both epilepsy and major depressive disorder has been discontinued[2][3][5][7].
