Overview

JNJ-39933673 (also known as TA-1887) is a highly potent, selective, and orally active small molecule inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2). Originally developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma and subsequently investigated in collaboration with Janssen, JNJ-39933673 targets SGLT2 in the renal proximal tubules to block glucose reabsorption and promote urinary glucose excretion. In preclinical models of type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease (DKD), the compound has demonstrated significant therapeutic benefits, including blood glucose reduction, preservation of pancreatic beta-cell function, and attenuation of renal inflammation, fibrosis, and glomerular lesions.
