By specifically antagonizing the IL-23 receptor, JNJ-90858638 blocks the IL-23 signaling pathway, thereby reducing the production of downstream pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and IL-22. As an oral small molecule, it offers a potential alternative to injectable monoclonal antibodies that target the same pathway. The compound is currently in Phase 1 clinical development, with studies evaluating its safety, pharmacokinetics, and potential drug-drug interactions in healthy participants.
