JNK-1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of c-Jun N-terminal kinase 1 (JNK1), also known as mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 (MAPK8). JNK1 is a member of the MAPK family that plays a critical role in promoting cell survival, controlling cell cycle arrest, and regulating apoptosis in various malignancies. Preclinical research, particularly at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, has demonstrated that systemic administration of JNK-1 siRNA can significantly reduce tumor weight and inhibit growth in orthotopic murine models of epithelial ovarian cancer. This silencing approach specifically targets JNK1 to downregulate its oncogenic functions, distinguishing it from JNK2, which may have different biological roles. The therapeutic potential of JNK-1 siRNA is often explored in combination with other agents, such as docetaxel, to enhance anti-tumor efficacy.
