jogliptin

Jogliptin glutamate is an orally active, selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Guangdong Dongyangguang Pharmaceutical (HEC Pharm) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a member of the 'gliptin' class of antidiabetic agents, it works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the rapid degradation of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preventing the breakdown of these hormones, jogliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon release from alpha cells, thereby improving glycemic control. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China, including studies on its efficacy and safety in patients with varying degrees of renal function.
