Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JOINS (SKI306X) is a botanical drug developed by SK Chemicals, approved in South Korea for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is a standardized extract derived from three medicinal plants: *Clematis mandshurica*, *Trichosanthes kirilowii*, and *Prunella vulgaris*. The drug exhibits a multi-target mechanism of action, providing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and cartilage-protective (chondroprotective) benefits. It works by inhibiting the expression and activity of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), as well as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade the extracellular matrix of cartilage. JOINS was the first herbal medicine to be approved as a prescription drug by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
