Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JointAlive is a proprietary traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It consists of a standardized blend of extracts from three flowering plants endemic to China: *Epimedium brevicornum* Maxim (leaves), *Dioscorea nipponica* Makino (rhizome), and *Salvia miltiorrhiza* Bunge (root and rhizome). The primary bioactive constituent is icariin, a flavonoid glycoside that exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. JointAlive is designed to alleviate symptoms of pain and stiffness and improve joint functionality by suppressing pro-inflammatory pathways, such as the NF-κB signaling cascade, and protecting articular cartilage from catabolic degradation. It has undergone safety, toxicity, and efficacy evaluations in both preclinical models and human clinical trials.
