Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JOTROL is a patented oral formulation of trans-resveratrol designed to significantly enhance the bioavailability of resveratrol while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects. Resveratrol is a polyphenol antioxidant found in plants and has been associated with neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects. The unique formulation of JOTROL allows for higher plasma concentrations of resveratrol compared to non-formulated versions. Mechanistically, it acts as an antioxidant and modulates several pathways relevant to neurodegeneration and inflammation by increasing expression or activation of neuroprotective genes (such as Adam10, Bace1, Bdnf), suppressing pro-inflammatory genes and cytokines, inhibiting angiogenesis and platelet aggregation, stimulating SIRT1 protein activity (a regulator involved in cellular stress responses), and inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase. It is being developed primarily for central nervous system disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), as well as rare diseases like Friedreich's ataxia where it holds orphan drug designation[2][3][4][5][7].
