Joulie solution

Joulie solution (also known as Joulie's Solution or Potion Joulié) is a compounded oral phosphate supplement primarily used for the treatment of hypophosphatemia, particularly in pediatric populations. It was developed by hospital pharmacists, notably within the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) network, as a stable alternative to commercial phosphate products like Phosphoneuros during supply shortages. The formulation typically contains sodium phosphate (often a mixture of dibasic and monobasic sodium phosphate to achieve a specific pH and phosphorus concentration) and provides approximately 67.4 mg/mL of elemental phosphorus. As a small molecule oral solution, it is valued for its physicochemical stability and compliance with microbiological standards, allowing for flexible dosing in clinical settings where standardized commercial products are unavailable.
