Overview
Jowiseungcheung-tang (JSCT) is a traditional Korean Sasang herbal medicine formulation traditionally prescribed for individuals of the Tae-eumin constitutional type. It is primarily utilized in the management of neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, as well as for metabolic conditions like obesity and post-stroke recovery. JSCT is composed of approximately ten herbal ingredients, including *Coix lachryma-jobi*, *Platycodon grandiflorum*, and *Schisandra chinensis*, which together exert neuroprotective effects by inhibiting neuroinflammation, reducing oxidative stress, and preventing the aggregation of pathological proteins like alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta. Research suggests that JSCT may modulate dopaminergic pathways and suppress the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1beta), thereby protecting neurons from apoptosis.
