Overview
JOYRAB-RD is a fixed-dose combination medication marketed by JoY Pharma for the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders. It consists of rabeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and domperidone, a dopamine antagonist with prokinetic properties. Rabeprazole works by covalently binding to and inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system (the gastric proton pump) in parietal cells, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. Domperidone acts as a peripheral dopamine D2 receptor antagonist, which enhances gastrointestinal motility and increases lower esophageal sphincter tone, helping to prevent nausea and facilitate gastric emptying. This combination is commonly indicated for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and functional dyspepsia, particularly when symptoms of acid reflux are accompanied by delayed gastric emptying or nausea.
