JP4-039-MLV is a radioprotective drug candidate developed by ChromoLogic in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh. It consists of JP4-039, a mitochondria-targeted nitroxide small molecule, encapsulated within a multilamellar vesicle (MLV) nanoparticle delivery platform. JP4-039 acts as a scavenger of free radicals and electrons escaping from the mitochondrial electron transfer chain, thereby reducing radiation-induced oxidative stress and tissue damage. The MLV formulation allows for high concentration encapsulation of the hydrophobic drug and provides sustained release, aiming to offer long-term protection against Hematopoietic Acute Radiation Syndrome (H-ARS) with reduced administration frequency.
