Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JT-001 is a name used for two distinct investigational drugs in development by different companies for different indications: 1. **JT-001 (Jeil Pharmaceutical):** A small molecule thiazolidinedione class antihyperglycemic agent developed by Jeil Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Its mechanism of action is as a peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) agonist, similar to pioglitazone. It is being evaluated as an add-on therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled with metformin and dapagliflozin[1][3][7]. 2. **JT-001 / VV116 (Junshi Biosciences/Vigonvita):** An oral nucleoside analog antiviral drug developed jointly by Junshi Biosciences and Vigonvita Life Sciences for the treatment of COVID-19. It has demonstrated efficacy in phase III trials versus nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Paxlovid), showing a shorter median time to sustained clinical recovery in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 at high risk of progression[6]. This compound is also known as VV116. There are also references to "JT001" as an NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor from Jecure Therapeutics; however, this appears to be a separate preclinical anti-inflammatory program unrelated to the above clinical-stage drugs[2][8][9].
