JTC-262

JTC-262 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of the NLRP3 (NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3) inflammasome, developed by Akros Pharma, a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco. The NLRP3 inflammasome is a key component of the innate immune system that, when activated, leads to the maturation and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, as well as pyroptosis. Chronic activation of this pathway in the central nervous system is a significant driver of neuroinflammation and neuronal damage in neurodegenerative conditions. JTC-262 is specifically being investigated for its potential to mitigate these inflammatory processes in neurodegenerative diseases and is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials.
