Overview

JTT-662 is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1). It is being developed primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By inhibiting SGLT1, JTT-662 suppresses postprandial hyperglycemia and helps normalize blood glucose levels. The drug is classified as an antihyperglycemic agent and represents a new molecular entity in this therapeutic area. Development has been led by Japan Tobacco and Akros Pharma, with clinical trials conducted in subjects with type 2 diabetes who are already on metformin monotherapy. As of September 2023, the highest development phase reached for this indication is Phase 1.
