Overview

JTV-161 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of Pim-1 kinase, currently under development by Akros Pharma (a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco) for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Pim-1 kinase is a serine/threonine kinase that is upregulated in the pulmonary vasculature of patients with PAH, where it promotes the hyperproliferation and resistance to apoptosis of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). By targeting Pim-1, JTV-161 aims to inhibit these pathological processes, potentially reversing vascular remodeling and improving pulmonary hemodynamics. The compound is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials.
