JTV-263 is an orally active small molecule inhibitor of hematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase (H-PGDS), currently under development by Akros Pharma (a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco) for the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). H-PGDS is the primary enzyme responsible for the production of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) in immune cells and skeletal muscle. PGD2 is a lipid mediator that plays a complex role in inflammation and muscle regeneration. By inhibiting H-PGDS, JTV-263 aims to modulate the inflammatory environment and potentially improve vascular or muscular outcomes in patients suffering from PAD. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics.
