Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal formula composed of six main ingredients: tangerine peel (chen pi), bamboo shavings (zhu ru), ginseng root (ren shen), fresh ginger rhizome (sheng jiang), licorice root (gan cao), and jujube fruit (da zao)[1][2][3]. The formula was first described in the classical text "Essentials from the Golden Cabinet" around 220 AD. It is primarily used to direct rebellious stomach Qi downward and stop hiccups. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) terms, it harmonizes the stomach, clears heat from the middle burner ("Middle Jiao"), regulates Qi flow, transforms phlegm, augments Qi supply to organs like spleen/stomach/lung/heart/gallbladder[1][2][3]. Western indications include nausea/vomiting due to stomach deficiency or heat patterns—such as morning sickness or gastritis—and persistent hiccup[2][3]. The mechanism involves regulating gastrointestinal motility through synergistic effects of its herbal components; for example chen pi regulates Qi flow while zhu ru clears phlegm-heat[1][2].
