juanbi pill

Juanbi pill is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound herbal formulation that has been widely used in China for hundreds of years to treat active rheumatoid arthritis and related joint diseases. It is derived from the classic TCM prescription "Juanbi decoction," which contains multiple herbs such as notopterygium root, radix angelicae pubescentis, Gentiana macrophylla, Kadsura pepper stem, mulberry twig, Angelica sinensis, Ligusticum wallichii, frankincense, Radix Aucklandiae, shaved cinnamon bark and liquorice. The pill form is a modern preparation for improved quality control and storage. Its primary indications are relief of joint pain and swelling in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), protection against joint destruction and malformation associated with RA progression[3][5]. Mechanistically—based on preclinical studies—Juanbi pill appears to modulate immune responses by regulating T cell phenotypes (Th17/Treg balance), inhibiting osteoclast differentiation via downregulation of RANK/NFATc1/c-fos signaling pathways in bone tissue[2][6], reducing inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6/IL-17A while promoting anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10/TGF-β1[6]. It may also exert bone-protective effects through modulation of ephrinB2 signaling pathways[2]. Clinical trials are ongoing or planned to evaluate its efficacy as an adjunct or alternative therapy for RA.
