Juglans regia pollen is a natural product extract derived from the male flowers of the English walnut tree. Phytochemical analysis has identified 24 phenolic compounds within the pollen, with quercetin 3-O-sophoroside and 4',5,7-trihydroxy-3,6-dimethoxyflavone-7-O-beta-D-glucoside being the most abundant. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that these extracts possess significant antioxidant activity, radical scavenging capabilities (specifically against ABTS, CUPRAC, O2•-, and OH- radicals), and ferrous ion chelating ability. Furthermore, the pollen exhibits cytotoxic effects against various cancer cell lines, most notably Caco-2 (colorectal cancer) and MCF-7 (breast cancer), suggesting potential for development as a nutraceutical or therapeutic agent in oncology and oxidative stress-related conditions.
