Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Juhuo (WP-101) is an innovative small molecule drug candidate developed by Beijing New Weipao Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of chronic non-bacterial prostatitis (also known as Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome, or CP/CPPS). Classified as a Class 1.1 new drug in China, Juhuo is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as a prodrug, metabolizing into an active form that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). This inhibition reduces the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins in the prostate tissue, thereby alleviating pain and urinary symptoms. The drug is specifically designed to achieve high concentrations in the prostate gland, improving efficacy while potentially reducing systemic side effects. It is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in China.
