Overview
Jumihaidokuto is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine used primarily for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, including acne vulgaris, eczema, and dermatitis. It is a multi-component herbal extract typically composed of ten botanical ingredients: Bupleurum root, Platycodon root, Cnidium rhizome, Poria sclerotium, Aralia cordata rhizome (or Angelica pubescens root), Saposhnikovia root (or Schizonepeta spike), Ginger rhizome, Licorice root, and Cherry bark (Prunus jamasakura). The formula is thought to exert its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, anti-androgenic, and antimicrobial activities. Specifically, it has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and may modulate sebum production by inhibiting 5-alpha reductase. In Japan, it is frequently utilized as an adjunctive oral therapy alongside standard topical treatments for acute inflammatory acne.
