Juniperus ashei pollen extract, derived from the Mountain Cedar plant, is a standardized biological allergen extract used for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory allergies, including rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma. It is highly cross-reactive with cypress pollen, making it a critical tool for managing Cupressaceae-related allergies in regions like the Mediterranean and Southwestern United States. The extract contains the major allergen **Jun a 1**, a glycoprotein whose allergenicity is significantly influenced by specific N-glycans, such as GnGnXF3, which mediate IgE binding. When used in allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT), the extract works by modulating the immune system, shifting the T-cell response from a Th2-biased profile (marked by IL-13 production) toward a Th1-biased profile (marked by increased IFN-gamma production), thereby inducing long-term clinical tolerance to environmental allergens.
