Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Juniperus indica extract (JIB extract) is a natural botanical extract derived from the herbal plant *Juniperus indica Bertol.*, a member of the Juniperus genus traditionally used in medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and diuretic properties. Currently under preclinical investigation as a potential anticancer agent, the extract has demonstrated anti-tumor activity against melanoma and oral cancer cells. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of the AKT/mTOR and MAPK signaling pathways, leading to cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase and the induction of apoptosis through the caspase cascade. Research conducted primarily at Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan also suggests that JIB extract may act synergistically with cisplatin to enhance growth inhibition and apoptosis in cancer models.
