Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Juniperus monosperma pollen extract is a non-standardized allergenic biologic product derived from the pollen of the one-seed juniper (also known as New Mexico juniper). Developed and manufactured by Greer Laboratories, it is utilized for both the diagnosis (via skin testing) and treatment (via allergen immunotherapy) of patients exhibiting immediate hypersensitivity (Type I) allergies to juniper pollen. The extract works by modulating the immune system; during immunotherapy, repeated exposure to increasing doses of the allergen induces desensitization, shifting the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1-mediated or regulatory T-cell response, thereby reducing symptoms of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
