Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Juniperus rigida fruit extract (JFE) is a botanical extract derived from the fruits of the needle juniper (*Juniperus rigida*), a plant traditionally used in Korean medicine for the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Research indicates that JFE possesses significant anti-atopic and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly effective in murine models of atopic dermatitis. Its mechanism of action involves accelerating skin barrier recovery and suppressing the overproduction of serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) and interleukin 4 (IL-4). Phytochemical analysis has identified several bioactive flavonoids within the extract, including cupressuflavone and isoscutellarein-7-O-β-xylopyranoside, which have been shown to down-regulate IL-4 expression and inhibit mast cell degranulation (measured by β-hexosaminidase release).
