Jupi Zhuru Decoction

Jupi Zhuru Decoction (Jupi Zhuru Tang) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the "Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet" (Jin Gui Yao Lue). It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of "stomach heat and rebellious Qi," which manifests as symptoms such as hiccups, nausea, or vomiting. The formula typically comprises six botanical ingredients: *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Jupi), *Bambusae Caulis in Taenias* (Zhuru), *Ginseng Radix* (Ren Shen), *Glycyrrhizae Radix* (Gan Cao), *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* (Sheng Jiang), and *Jujubae Fructus* (Da Zao). In modern clinical practice, it is being investigated by institutions such as Shuguang Hospital for its efficacy in treating reflux esophagitis, particularly the "stomach heat and yin deficiency" subtype, where it may be used alone or in combination with other TCM formulas like Maimendong Decoction or Western therapies such as proton pump inhibitors.
