Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Juvéderm Ultra 2 is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal filler developed by Allergan Aesthetics (a subsidiary of AbbVie). It is engineered using Vycross technology, which integrates low and high molecular weight HA chains to produce a smooth, cohesive gel that resists degradation. The formulation includes lidocaine to reduce pain during the injection process. Juvéderm Ultra 2 is specifically designed for injection into the superficial to middle dermis to treat fine to moderate facial wrinkles, enhance lip contours, and correct nasolabial folds. Its mechanism involves the restoration of volume and hydration by attracting water molecules within the extracellular matrix. In clinical settings, it has been investigated in Phase 4 studies for the treatment of glabellar frown lines, particularly in combination with botulinum toxin type A to assess the longevity of the filler's effects.
