Juvederm Ultra

Juvederm Ultra is an injectable hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler developed by Allergan (now AbbVie). It is a sterile, clear, colorless, homogenized gel consisting of cross-linked hyaluronic acid produced by *Streptococcus equi* bacteria, formulated at a concentration of 24 mg/mL. Utilizing proprietary Hylacross technology, the gel is highly cross-linked (approximately 9%) to provide a smooth consistency and enhanced stability compared to granular fillers. It is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and for lip augmentation. The product works by physically filling space in the dermal layer and binding water to provide hydration and volume, with aesthetic results typically lasting between 9 and 12 months. A variant, Juvederm Ultra XC, includes 0.3% lidocaine to improve patient comfort during the injection procedure.
