JUVIAGEL

JUVIAGEL (also known as FUNGIA) is a zinc-containing vaginal hydrogel developed by FEMPHARMA for the treatment and prevention of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). The product contains zinc sulfate heptahydrate at a concentration of 20 mM. Its mechanism of action involves targeting the pH-regulated antigen 1 (Pra1) protein produced by *Candida albicans*. Pra1 is a fungal zincophore that, in zinc-limited environments such as the vaginal mucosa during infection, triggers a robust host inflammatory response characterized by neutrophil recruitment, which causes the burning and itching symptoms of yeast infections. By providing a local source of zinc, JUVIAGEL suppresses the expression of the Pra1 protein, thereby blocking the inflammatory cascade and preventing reinfection. Clinical data has demonstrated significant efficacy in preventing recurrent infections in women over a three-month period.
