Overview

JW0061 is a first-in-class small molecule drug candidate developed by JW Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hair loss, including androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata. Discovered through the company's AI-based data science platform, JWELRY, the drug functions by directly binding to the GDNF family receptor alpha 1 (GFRA1) located on hair follicle stem cells and dermal papilla cells. This binding triggers the activation of the Wnt signaling pathway, which is critical for hair follicle proliferation and regeneration. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that JW0061 significantly increases hair follicle formation in human skin organoid models and improves hair growth rates in animal models. As of February 2025, JW Pharmaceutical has received regulatory approval in South Korea to initiate Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy volunteers.
